Houghton Colliery Mechanics Football team in the early 1950s

Houghton Mechanics Football team in the 1950s. This team played Sunderland AFC in the final of the Houghton Aged Miners’ Cup and won 3-1, despite the Sunderland team having one or two first team players on that day! The scorers were Bob Davidson (front row, middle) scored two goals and Bob Thompson (front row, second from left) scored one. Members of the Houghton team received medals for their success.
