The Friends of Houghton Hillside Cemetery's website is www.theoldcem.co.uk, as Hillside Cemetery was known locally as the Old Cem.
When it first opened, however, it was known as the New Cemetery!
It is in fact a consecrated churchyard - detached from the Church of St Michael & All Angels in Houghton le Spring
The Friends of Houghton Hillside Cemetery were formed in 2003 at a public meet set up by Rev Ian Wallis and Paul Lanagan.
